IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (4-2-18)
“Promoting education based athletics in Indiana”

This past week marked the beginning of another Major League Baseball season. It’s hard to believe that the players prepare and practice during spring training for over five weeks (along with exhibition games) before the official start of the season.

Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax, one of the best left-handed pitchers in history, was quoted In Sports Illustrated saying that “People (sports writers) writing about spring training not being necessary have never tried throwing a baseball.”  In other words, practice time before the beginning of any sports season is important and should be taken seriously.

How seriously do you take your preseason workouts and practices? In some cases you have less than two weeks to get ready for the season ahead.

Every sport at the high school level, regardless of the time of year, requires a certain amount of preparation and training. Those that work hard to prepare in the preseason before the official games begin will be less likely to miss time during the season because of injury or lack of conditioning!
